Thesis Question

Here is what I have for my possible Thesis question. If you have any ideas let me know what you think.

Topic: Embodied Energy found in exterior wall assemblies

Thesis: Through the use of green technologies (like pv panels) how can we offset the embodied energy of a net zero green home found in kamloops?

Applications:
  • To create an overall greener wall assembly for a single family home in this climate
  • To compare to a conventional wood frame home.

I would like to somehow incorporate the comparison of a wood-frame home into my thesis questions. If you have any suggestions please pass on your ideas. Thanks!

  1. You could narrow your thesis question down to cost for single familys, or maybe to a particular climate.

Here is a site that may help for ratings of wall assemblies. It looks as it may be quite helpful.

  2. Thanks Dave, yes I was thinking of actually more specifically applying it to The Net-Zero Green home in Sun Rivers.

  3. Are you focusing on just Photovoltaic? I to am researching something similar to this topic and there are lots of alternative energy sources maybe you could incorporate Wind energy and gray water into your research.

I cam across a book that has lots of green information.

  4. Thanks Graham. Adding to the dream home I'm focusing on just adding photovoltaic, but for looking into future products your suggestions are valid. I'll definitely have a look at the information. Can you get that book at TRU or do u have it out?
